Client Brief

To celebrate the finale of the 60th edition of the European Championships, honour the finalists and host city, and create a spectacular Closing Ceremony that would enhance the experience of fans and dignitaries in attendance and the global TV audience.

Our Response

Working with Europe’s leading industry suppliers and talent, we conceptualised and produced a closing ceremony that celebrated the unique qualities of this special tournament. The first to be hosted in 12 cities across Europe and the first major football tournament post pandemic.  Our ceremony opened with a countdown video that journeyed across Europe, landing centre pitch on the hallowed turf of Wembley Stadium, exploring the very DNA of the trophy and the fans that sit at its core.

London was honoured with a fanfare from the Band of the Coldstream Guards and a fly by from the world famous Red Arrows. A cast of 150 brought the ceremony to life which took place on top of a giant digitally printed 7,140sqm pitch carpet, and was anchored around an 11m tall giant replica trophy that sat proudly at the heart of the ceremony.

Energy was driven not only by the highly choreographed mass cast performance, but also by stadium flood lighting display and extensive flame and pyrotechnic spectacle which included 27 flame units and 59 pyro points that were installed across the pitch, as well as 1,380 pyrotechnic products fired from the iconic Wembley Arch.

With innovation at the forefront of our response, for the first time, Augmented Reality graphics were overlaid onto the broadcaster’s Spidercam platform, allowing us to seamlessly integrate dynamic animated graphics onto the world feed, enhancing the spectator and viewer experience and further crystallizing the ceremony’s narrative.

Testimonial

“Despite the challenges, I stood beside you on Sunday last week and watched two of the most experienced and talented individuals I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with deliver nothing short of perfection. There is nothing I would have changed, nothing that could have been improved and no other people I would rather have had standing beside me. For those 9 mins, I lived the client’s dream – I stood back, relaxed and watched our dreams and dedication come to life before my eyes!”
